NEWS: Bernie 2020 Rolls Out New Home State Endorsements

WASHINGTON – Bernie 2020 today announced a slate of five new endorsements from the Vermont senator's home state. Shortly after declaring his candidacy, Sanders secured endorsements from U.S. Sen. Patrick Leahy, U.S. Rep. Peter Welch and Lieutenant Governor David Zuckerman.

The additional endorsements come more than seven months ahead of the Green Mountain State's nominating contest to select the next Democratic presidential nominee. They include:

T.J. Donovan, Vermont Attorney General:
"I'm proud to support Senator Bernie Sanders for President of the United States.  Senator Sandershas a long history of advocating for fairness, justice, compassion and common sense -- qualities our country desperately needs right now.  As someone who grew up in Burlington while he was Mayor and saw Bernie embrace those values, I know he has the "right stuff" to be our next President."

Beth Pearce, Vermont State Treasurer
"Senator Sanders has long fought for the people of Vermont and especially our veterans. I usually do not make political endorsements, but Bernie is special and I am proud to endorse him."

Doug Hoffer, Vermont State Auditor:
"Bernie has been fighting for working people for 40 years. He has always pushed the envelope but is a pragmatist when it's time to get things done. I was proud to work for him when he was Mayor of Burlington and am proud to support him now for President."

Tim Ashe, Vermont Senate President
""Some men see things as they are and say ‘why'? I dream things that never were and say 'why not?’” Bobby Kennedy returned to this theme as he envisioned a better future for our country and our planet. Everything about Bernie’s campaign summons the same spirit of transformational change. And while he calls our nation to a higher place, it’s worth remembering that he was a thrifty Mayor who knew how to get the streets plowed in Vermont winters!"

Mary Sullivan, Democratic National Committee Member:
“I’m very excited to be supporting Bernie Sanders in 2020. He has been a strong and consistent voice for working people for decades. He believes in a green new deal that will benefit us all. He’s got energy and stamina that people half his age find hard to keep up with. With Bernie, we’ll start making progress again.”
