Eight Candidates Address Progressive Activists on Democracy Issues     next >

April 1, 2019 - Eight of the Democratic presidential candidates participated in a "We the People Membership Summit" organized by progressive groups at Warner Theatre.  Each candidate spoke for about eight minutes and then answered questions from activists in the audience on subjects such as voting rights, money in politics, the courts and the electoral college [more].  Emcees Ana Maria Archila, co-executive director of the Center for Popular Democracy, and Kelley Robinson, executive director of Planned Parenthood Action Fund kept the event moving throughout the day.  This event is the first of what will be many "cattle show" events over the next ten months leading up to the primaries.  The Democratic field, which, depending on how one counts, stands at about 14 candidates, is expected to grow in the coming weeks.
