The Tenants Union of San
Antonio flyer states, "As HUD Secretary, Castro promised to help
homeowners avoid foreclosure. In reality, he sent 98% of
mortgages to
Wall Street for a discount of nearly 50%, to the same people who
created the financial collapse. Castro's
policies enabled reckless investors to prey upon
struggling people, resulting in financial difficulties, bankruptcies
and even homelessness." The TUSA complaint concerns HUD’s
Distressed
Asset
Stabilization Program which became an issue for Castro in 2016
when Hillary Clinton was reportedly considering him as a possible
running
mate. See: Edward-Isaac Dover. "Castro moves to stop VP fire from the left." Politico, May 16, 2016. Ben Lane. "Progressives using HUD NPL sales to disqualify Castro as Democratic VP nominee." HousingWire, April 12, 2016. HUD Archives. |
