Below are key civil liberties positions of four leading presidential candidates who responded to the ACLU presidential questionnaire

We thank each and every candidate who responded. The clear on the record answers showed real leadership. The candidates all agreed on certain key issues including:

  • Undocumented immigrants, who are our families, friends, and neighbors, need a path to citizenship.
  • The federal government must end the use of detainers, which imprison people unjustly.
  • The Hyde Amendment, which denies abortion care to low-income people, must be lifted.
But, the candidates also differed in certain key areas:
