Pew Research Center: “2020 election will mark the first time that Hispanics will be the largest racial or ethnic minority group in the electorate”

Washington D.C. — Today, the Pew Research Center published a new report looking ahead of the 2020 electorate. In the report, Pew projects that “the 2020 election will mark the first time that Hispanics will be the largest racial or ethnic minority group in the electorate, accounting for just over 13 percent of eligible voters.”  The group also projected that the Latino electorate will continue to expand and that in 2020, 32 million Latinos will be eligible to vote.

Responding to the report, Latino Victory Fund President Cristóbal J. Alex issued the following statement:

We look forward to working with our partners to ensure Latino voter engagement and issues impacting our community are at the forefront of every campaign.”

During the historic 2018 cycle, Latino Victory targeted more seats and endorsed more candidates than in any previous cycle — 58 candidates with 43 victories (68% of the winning candidates were Latinas). With Latino voters being such a crucial voting bloc in the Democratic primary and general election, Latino Victory is focused and already laying the groundwork to ensure record-breaking Latino voter turnout in 2020.
