Charlotte 2020 Host Committee Announces Staff Appointments

Host Committee Names COO, Controller, General Counsel, Communications Director and Executive Administrator

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The Charlotte 2020 Host Committee today announced five staff appointments who will help lead the work of planning a successful Republican National Convention, over the next two years.

Towers Mingledorff will serve as the committee’s Chief Operating Officer. Mingledorff has previously held various roles on Capitol Hill and at the North Carolina General Assembly. He most recently worked for SAS, the analytics software company, based in Cary, NC.

Scott Syfert will serve as General Counsel. A partner at Moore & Van Allen and a native of Charlotte, he practices business and corporate law with a focus on international business transactions.

Kim Bowman will serve as Controller. Bowman’s background includes experience in public accounting with agencies such as RSM McGladrey, Haas and Morgan CPA, PLLC, along with asset management. She also currently works with wealth management company, Bowman Financial Group, LLC.

Ashley Simmons will serve as Interim Communications Director, on behalf of MVA Public Affairs. As Director of Public Relations for MVA Public Affairs, she provides clients with communications and media relations counsel. She previously held communications roles with the City of Charlotte.

Andrea Mathis will serve as Executive Administrator. Mathis previously held roles with the U.S. Department of Defense Education Activity in Baumholder Germany. She also previously worked at Emory University in human resources.

Chief Executive Officer John Lassiter said the group brings invaluable experience to the effort of organizing and raising necessary funds for the convention.

With the convention dates now set, we are ready to hit the ground running on collaborative strategies across public, private and civic entities in preparing to showcase our community across the country and the world.”

Charlotte 2020 Host Committee Welcomes 2020 Republican National Convention; Announces President and CEO, Co-chairs

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Charlotte 2020 Host Committee is honored to welcome the 2020 Republican National Convention (RNC) to the Queen City, as selected by the Republican National Committee today in Austin, Texas.

The Charlotte 2020 Host Committee also is pleased to announce that civic and business leader John Lassiter will serve as the committee’s president and chief executive officer. Lassiter is president of Carolina Legal Staffing, which provides legal professionals placement and services in every major market of the Carolinas. He previously served as chairman of the Economic Development Partnership of North Carolina and as a member of the Charlotte City Council and Charlotte-Mecklenburg Board of Education.

The Charlotte 2020 Host Committee co-chairs will be:

The Host Committee is a nonprofit organization with the primary responsibilities of organizing and raising necessary funds for hosting the convention. The committee also is focused on promoting the significant workforce, vendor and volunteer opportunities associated with having an event of this scale in Charlotte.
