Media Advisory: New Hampshire Democratic Party to Host 22 Pre-Primary Caucuses to Elect Delegates to the 2020 Democratic National Convention

Historic Number of Delegate Candidates Signals High Energy for Granite State Democrats

On Saturday, January 25th at 10:00 am, the New Hampshire Democratic Party will host 22 pre-primary district delegate selection caucuses to elect a slate of district-level delegates for the 2020 Democratic National Convention in Milwaukee. 

Each presidential campaign participates in two caucuses — one in each of New Hampshire’s congressional districts — located in each district’s population center. 

A historic number of Granite Staters filed to run for delegate this year – 382 in total – representing 11 different presidential campaigns and beating the previous 2004 record. Delegate candidates hail from 130 communities across the state and all ten counties, and of the 382 delegate candidates, 85 are young people; 65 are LGBTQ+; 4 identify as non-binary; 29 are persons with disabilities, 16 are Asian American and Pacific Islander; 13 are Latino and Hispanic; 11 are African American; and 5 are Native American.

At the 2020 Democratic National Convention, the New Hampshire Democratic Party will have 33 delegates and 2 alternates. 16 of the 33 total delegates are elected at the January 25th caucuses. 

“We’re excited to see so many voters and activists step up and run for delegate,” said Ray Buckley, chair of the New Hampshire Democratic Party. “New Hampshire is known for its grassroots engagement, and this year Democrats all over the state have really raised the bar.”

When: Saturday, January 25th. Doors open at 9:00 am. The caucus begins promptly at 10:00 am.
