NH State Representative Tim Horrigan Endorses Cory Booker for President

Three Community Leaders Also Announce Their Support for Booker

In the Last Six Weeks, Booker Has Seen a Surge in Endorsements from NH Electeds, Former Electeds, Community Leaders, and Activists

Manchester, NH — New Hampshire State Representative Tim Horrigan (Durham) and several community leaders today endorsed Cory Booker for president, citing his ability to excite a diverse coalition of voters needed to win in November.

The new endorsements come on the heels of former New Hampshire State Senator Katie Wheeler (Durham) announcing her support for Booker. Booker is among the leaders for earning endorsements from New Hampshire elected officials, former elected officials, community leaders and activists.

“I’m endorsing Cory Booker because he understands what it takes to prevent gun violence in our country. His track record is unmatched,” said State Rep. Tim Horrigan. “Cory knows how to overcome the biggest challenges and get the job done, and he is uniquely capable of exciting a broad coalition of voters we need to beat Donald Trump and heal our country.”

Horrigan is serving his sixth term and represents Strafford County District 6 (Durham and Madbury). In the legislature, he has focused on preventing gun violence, making health care more accessible and increasing access to the ballot box for Granite Staters. Booker was the first candidate to propose gun licensing -- which many 2020 presidential candidates now support -- and has vowed to pursue a new and expanded Voting Rights Act that would end systematic attempts to limit access to the ballot box and strip citizens of their constitutionally-guaranteed right to vote.

Also endorsing Booker today are:

Katie Desrochers, a six-term Manchester School Board member
“I have followed the path of Cory Booker’s journey since he was Mayor of Newark. Today, I am proud to announce that I am officially endorsing him for President of the United States. Cory’s character and commitment to service is exactly what we need. Cory knows firsthand the impact of a quality public education on a child's life. That's why he'll give our teachers a much-needed raise and fight as president for every child, regardless of zip code."

Anthony Poore, the first African-American executive director of New Hampshire Humanities, a Concord-based non-profit organization. Last week, while campaigning in New Hampshire, Booker joined an intimate gathering of African-American leaders in Manchester hosted by Poore, who tweeted following the event: “I was honored to host Sen. Cory Booker this evening. He didn't rush...He listened and took the time to connect with folks in authentic ways. He earned my respect and my vote. Thank you sir.”

Dierdre Reynolds, a prominent Nashua gun violence prevention activist
“Cory is more committed to ending the epidemic of gun violence than any other candidate. I enthusiastically endorse him because he will take action to protect our children.”

In addition to these new endorsers, Booker has earned the backing of three state senators, 20 additional state representatives, the state’s longest-serving mayor, and dozens of key activists across New Hampshire.

Youngest Woman Serving in New Hampshire Legislature Endorses Cory Booker for President

Leading Advocate for Ending Child Marriage and NH State Rep. Cassie Levesque is 103rd New Hampshire Endorsement for Booker

Manchester, NH — New Hampshire State Representative Cassie Levesque (Barrington) -- the youngest woman serving in the New Hampshire legislature and a leading advocate for ending child marriage -- today announced she is endorsing Cory Booker for president. Earlier this week, Booker announced that he’s earned 100 endorsements from Granite State leaders -- more than any other 2020 candidate. That total now climbs to 103 -- and includes 20 New Hampshire state representatives -- after Levesque and State Reps. Garrett Muscatel (Hanover) and Rosemarie Rung (Merrimack) announced their support in the last two days.

“I’ve seen almost every candidate in-person, but Cory Booker stands above them all. Cory is a leader who will listen to my generation and fight for justice for everyone,” said State Rep. Cassie Levesque. “Cory will bring experience and a track record of results to the Oval Office, as well as unmatched empathy for others. I’m excited to endorse Cory for president because he will heal our country and bring a much-needed urgency to solving the big challenges we face.”

Levesque, a Southern New Hampshire University student, was elected in 2018 at the age of 19 and represents Strafford County District 4. Her victory in 2018 was part of a wave of young Democrats winning legislative seats last year.

Levesque first learned about the workings of the legislature five years ago when she began advocating for lawmakers to raise the legal marriage age from 13 to 18. The issue resonated with Levesque, as her grandmother and great-grandmother left abusive households and entered into marriages as minors. After being dismissed in part because of her age, she decided to run for her local state representative seat on the Seacoast -- and she won. When the State did raise the legal age to 16 last year, Levesque was credited with being the driving force. And now she’s working to raise the age to 18, this time as an elected official.

In addition to Levesque, Booker has earned the backing of three state senators, 19 additional state representatives, the state’s longest-serving mayor, and dozens of key activists across New Hampshire.

New Hampshire State Rep. Rosemarie Rung Endorses Cory Booker for President

Booker Earns Field-Leading 102nd New Hampshire Endorsement from Merrimack “Water Warrior”

Manchester, NH — New Hampshire State Representative Rosemarie Rung (Merrimack) -- one of the Merrimack “Water Warriors” who advocates for safe water and to hold corporate polluters accountable -- today announced she is endorsing Cory Booker for president.

Earlier this week, Booker announced that he’s earned 100 endorsements from Granite State leaders -- more than any other 2020 candidate. That total now climbs to 102 and follows an endorsement yesterday from State Rep. Garrett Muscatel (Hanover).

“I wasn't planning to endorse a candidate in the primary, but it’s become clear that we need Cory Booker’s voice now and we need his leadership in the Oval Office,” said State Rep. Rosemarie Rung. “Cory has consistently taken on difficult challenges, and he has experience getting legislation passed in Congress. These are critical qualities as we cannot wait any longer to address climate change, to make health care and higher education affordable, to ensure fair housing for everyone, and much more.

“When I met Cory for the third time last month, he came to my home to meet local Merrimack folks and my neighbors. His impact on them was palpable. He is down-to-earth yet visionary, strong yet compassionate, accomplished yet humble. I'm certain he can unite our country so we can return to the business of being Americans serving our Constitution and earning the respect of the world. Cory will have our back as president, and I wholeheartedly endorse him.”

Rung was elected in 2018 and represents Hillsborough County District 21. She is among a group of women from Merrimack, dubbed “Water Warriors,” who won state legislative seats last year fueled by their activism standing up to corporate polluters, specifically related to water in their community contaminated with PFAS chemicals.

As Booker has campaigned across New Hampshire, from Merrimack to the Seacoast, water contamination has been one of the biggest concerns he’s heard from residents. In May, he held a Facebook town hall with New Hampshire residents so he could learn more and shape solutions. When he released his $3 trillion climate plan in September, Booker emphasized that his administration would revitalize the EPA so that it holds corporate polluters accountable and cleans up SuperFund sites.

Booker would also establish a United States Environmental Justice Fund that would be charged with coordinating the most ambitious-ever federal effort to advance environmental justice and invest in communities long left behind. Through the Fund, Booker would replace all residential, school, and daycare lead drinking water service lines and remediate all housing units where children reside and schools that contain peeling or chipping lead-based paint and high levels of lead-contaminated dust. He would also initiate clean up of every “orphaned” shovel-ready Superfund site. New Hampshire has 20 Formerly Used Defense (FUD) sites and 22 Superfund sites.

In addition to Rung, Booker has earned the backing of three state senators, 18 additional state representatives, the state’s longest-serving mayor, and dozens of key activists across New Hampshire.

Youngest Openly LGBTQ State Legislator in the Country Endorses Cory Booker for President

New Hampshire State Rep. Garrett Muscatel is 101st New Hampshire Endorsement for Booker

Manchester, NH — New Hampshire State Representative Garrett Muscatel (Hanover) -- the youngest openly LGBTQ state legislator in the country -- today announced he is endorsing Cory Booker for president. Earlier this week, Booker announced that he’s earned 100 endorsements from Granite State leaders -- more than any other 2020 candidate.

“Cory Booker is an inspiring, experienced candidate and is uniquely capable of both energizing young voters we need to win this election and getting results as president,” said State Rep. Garrett Muscatel. “I’ve had the chance to get to know Cory as he’s campaigned in our state, and it’s clear he deeply understands issues affecting my generation. From LGBTQ rights to voting rights to climate change, Cory offers not just bold policy prescriptions but a track record of building diverse coalitions to make change. I’m proud to endorse Cory for president because he is the right leader at this decisive moment that will determine what our country looks like for decades to come.”

Muscatel, 20, was elected in 2018 and represents Grafton County District 12. He is the youngest openly LGBTQ person ever elected to office in the United States. Muscatel is a senior at Dartmouth College and one of the plaintiffs in the lawsuit challenging SB3, legislation that makes voting more difficult for college students, veterans and others.

Booker has a long history of advocacy for voting rights, and in April he proposed a comprehensive new Voting Rights Act. The plan would end partisan gerrymandering, implement universal voter registration, and make Election Day a national holiday, among other changes.

Further, Booker’s long record of standing up for LGBTQ Americans includes being the first candidate to call attention to the murders of black transgender women on the debate stage and refusing to officiate any wedding as mayor of Newark until all couples could legally wed.

In addition to Muscatel, Booker has earned the backing of three state senators, 17 additional state representatives, the state’s longest-serving mayor, and dozens of key activists across New Hampshire. Last month, New Hampshire State Representative Gerri Cannon (Somersworth) -- one of the first openly transgender state legislators in the Granite State and one of just four nationwide -- endorsed Booker.

Yesterday, Cory Booker announced the endorsement from Dover City Councilor Michelle Muffett-Lipinski.

“I’ve seen firsthand the persistent inequalities that plague our systems of education, justice and health care, especially as it relates to opioid addiction. Cory Booker has shown over and over again that he deeply understands these injustices and has been fighting them his entire career. That’s why I’m proud to endorse Cory to be our next president,” said Councilor Michelle Muffett-Lipinski. “Cory has always rolled up his sleeves and done whatever it takes to solve problems. For example, when others said long overdue criminal justice reform couldn’t get done, Cory made it happen -- and it was the only major, bipartisan bill signed into law by the current president. Cory has the experience and track record of results that will make him a highly effective president who heals our nation and provides a voice for those who have been left behind.”

In addition to serving Dover on the City Council since 2017 and as a former member of the Dover School Board, Muffett-Lipinski is a leader in helping young people recover from drug addictions. Thirteen years ago, she founded Northshore Recovery High School in Massachusetts, which works exclusively with adolescents struggling with substance use and co-occurring mental health disorders. The school was featured in a documentary film chronicling a year at the ground-breaking public school where teenagers study while working to recover from drug addictions.

Concord City Councilor Byron Champlin Endorses
Cory Booker For President

Manchester, NH — Concord City Councilor Byron Champlin today endorsed Cory Booker for president. Just one week after Booker officially filed for the New Hampshire primary ballot in Concord, Booker earned his 88th New Hampshire endorsement. It also comes after Booker’s debate performance in Atlanta earned rave reviews.

“Cory Booker’s healing message is exactly what America needs after years of President Trump’s hatred and division. As a former mayor and current U.S. Senator, Cory has the experience of bringing together a diverse coalition of people to deliver real change for all Americans,” said Councilor Byron Champlin. “Cory led the biggest city in his state through the Great Recession and saw population growth for the first time in 60 years. In the Senate, he worked through an almost impossibly gridlocked environment to get major, bipartisan legislation signed into law. Cory has the experience of building coalitions so he can deliver for his constituents. He knows how to find common ground to improve the lives of the people he serves. He is the right leader at this moment for our country who will get results for all of us.”

Champlin is an at-large councilor on the Concord City Council. As a former city councilor himself, Booker understands the importance of developing communities with access to safe, affordable housing. That’s why his plan for affordable housing will lower rent costs, increase homeownership, and end homelessness.

Booker earns field-leading 86th New Hampshire endorsement

Manchester, NH — New Hampshire State Representative Roger Dontonville (Enfield), a two-term legislator, retired teacher and advocate for growing the economies of rural communities, today endorsed Cory Booker for president. Dontonville believes Booker is uniquely capable of uniting the country and restoring civility in our public discourse.

"After seeing him captivate a packed, 500-person crowd at Dartmouth with his message of uniting our party and our country, it is clear that Cory Booker is the best candidate to take on Donald Trump and heal our country. Cory knows that beating Trump is the floor, not the ceiling, and he's actually shown he can get big things done in difficult environments,” said State Rep. Roger Dontonville. “Further, Cory impressed in the last debate by keeping his eye on the prize -- coming together to win in November 2020. I'm ready to help Cory win the New Hampshire primary and become our nominee so we can restore civility in our country and make justice and opportunity real for everyone."

Dontonville represents Grafton County District 10 and is serving his second term. He is the latest state elected official to back Booker in the 2020 primary, and the endorsement comes just one day after Booker announced his plan to ensure that rural communities such as the ones Dontonville represents are places where real economic opportunity can be found. Booker emphasizes in the plan that no one should have to leave their home to find economic opportunity in America.

Four-Term New Hampshire State Rep. Christy Bartlett Endorses Cory Booker for President

Booker earns field-leading 85th New Hampshire endorsement

Manchester, NH — New Hampshire State Representative Christy Bartlett (Concord), a four-term legislator and advocate for women’s reproductive rights, today endorsed Cory Booker for president, saying she agrees with his core values and beliefs. Bartlett decided to back Booker after watching his passionate remarks at the New Hampshire convention last month and seeing him last Thursday at Politics & Eggs, where he earned two rare standing ovations at the typically staid event.

“After years of Trump’s division, we need a nominee who will work to bring together and heal our country and our world, which is why I’m endorsing Cory Booker for president,” said State Rep. Christy Bartlett. “He will work to repair the damage of the last few years and make progress on the issues working families in New Hampshire care about most. In particular, Cory has stood out for standing up for women’s right to a safe, legal abortion -- and urging other men to be strong advocates for reproductive rights. At this critical moment, Cory is the best candidate to excite voters across the country, defeat Donald Trump and unite the nation so we can make justice and opportunity real for everyone.”

Bartlett represents Concord Ward 10 and is serving her fourth term. In the State House, she has focused on protecting access to safe, legal abortion; expanding Medicaid; raising the minimum wage to a living wage for New Hampshire workers; and increasing funding to combat the opioid crisis.

This endorsement comes on the heels of Booker’s latest visit to New Hampshire and after Booker raised more money in the third quarter than in the previous two quarters. Booker exceeded his goal of raising $1.7 million over the final ten days of September -- the campaign raised $2.1 million over that period -- and now has the resources to grow the campaign in New Hampshire and in other early-voting states.

Mayor of New Hampshire's Capital City Backs Cory Booker for President After His Debate Victory

Bouley praises Booker’s experience and leadership, highlights his success as mayor of New Jersey’s largest city

Manchester, NH — The mayor of New Hampshire's capital city, and New Hampshire's longest-serving current mayor, has endorsed Cory Booker for President following his winning debate performance last night. In announcing his support, Concord Mayor Jim Bouley cited Booker’s track record as a proven fighter who has tackled the biggest challenges as mayor of Newark and his vision of unifying Americans as our next President. Bouley joins a group of more than 50 elected leaders and activists in New Hampshire who are backing Booker, a number far greater than any other 2020 candidate.

“As mayor of New Hampshire's capital city, I'm proud to endorse Cory Booker for president. Cory stands out in the field for his executive experience managing his state's largest city, and the results — a city that's growing for the first time in 60 years — speak volumes about his success tackling the biggest challenges,” said Concord Mayor Jim Bouley.

“I have met with Cory, spoken with him about his vision for the country and I wholeheartedly agree that we need to unite Americans so we can build a more fair and just nation for everyone. I am proud to stand with my fellow mayor in this race."

"We are thrilled to have Mayor Bouley join our rapidly-growing team in New Hampshire. Cory's early commitment to our state — where he has built one of the strongest teams on the ground — is helping us spread Cory's message and earn support across the Granite State," said Erin Turmelle, Cory for New Hampshire state director. "It's clearer than ever that Cory's message of uniting our country in order to build a more fair and just nation for everyone is resonating in New Hampshire."

JoAnne St. John, Pat Kalik, Rep. John Knowles Among 40+ New Hampshire Activists and Community Leaders Endorsing Cory Booker

Prominent Nashua and Manchester Activists, Former State Rep. Among Influential List of New Hampshire Leaders Backing Booker

Manchester, NH — Following Cory Booker’s latest visit to New Hampshire, Cory for New Hampshire announced today that prominent Nashua activist JoAnne St. John, Manchester activist Pat Kalik, former NH state representative John Knowles are among more than 40 New Hampshire activists and community leaders who are endorsing Cory Booker for President.

“You only have to watch Cory Booker in person to know why he’s the best candidate in this race,” said JoAnne St. John, a leading statewide Democratic activist who has helped elect and re-elect President Obama and was a key part of the 2016 and 2018 blue waves in Nashua. “I came away from his speech this weekend in Nashua inspired and ready to take action. Sharp, smart, passionate and driven, Cory’s vision for our country is ambitious and forward-thinking. He is a proven fighter who has taken on tough challenges and gotten results. His team is running a campaign that can truly win here in New Hampshire and across the country, and I’m excited to help them win.”

“As someone who has worked for many cycles in Democratic politics, I know the real deal when I see it,” said Pat Kalik, a longtime Manchester activist. “Cory Booker has invested heavily in New Hampshire, hiring a smart, experienced team and spending time talking to thousands and thousands of voters. He has a long history of working tirelessly to pass critical legislation, and to make lives better for all Americans. Cory is the best person to take on Donald Trump in this race, and I am proud to join this group of activists in standing by his side.”

He will bring Americans together to build a more just and fair nation for everyone. The word I most associate with Cory is ‘presidential’ — because that’s what he is.”

“We need a president who will take a fearless stand to end the crisis of gun violence in our country, and Cory Booker is that person,” said Clai Lasher-Sommers, a gun violence prevention activist in Cheshire County. “No other candidate understands, in such a personal way, the impact this violence has had on communities across the country. 10-Term NH State Rep. Peter Leishman Endorses
Cory Booker for President

Leishman highlights Booker’s strong record on criminal justice reform as key reason for endorsement

Manchester, NH — After seeing Sen. Cory Booker campaign in New Hampshire this weekend, New Hampshire state Representative Peter Leishman (Peterborough) announced that he has endorsed Booker in the Democratic presidential primary. Leishman joins six fellow state representatives who announced their own endorsements last week.

“Cory Booker is a proven leader who knows the opioid epidemic and mental health crisis won’t be solved by sending millions of people to prison and throwing away the key — but instead by reforming our criminal justice system so that we treat every American with dignity,” said Rep. Peter Leishman. "I know this from personal experience--my son, Jordan, suffered from addiction for 12 years, he got caught up in the system, and then we lost him. What we're doing now is not working.

"I’m proud to support Cory for president because he thinks of people like my son when he gets up every morning to find solutions to the toughest challenges facing our country. Cory led to passage major, bipartisan legislation that is fixing our criminal justice system, even with Donald Trump in the White House. Just think about what he will do when he's in the Oval Office. I know Cory will fight for all Americans, including those battling addiction here in New Hampshire, and is the right person to take on Trump and reunite our country so we can finally make much-needed progress on critical issues facing our state and our country.”

Leishman joins the following New Hampshire leaders in endorsing Booker for president:
  • Sen. Jon Morgan (Brentwood)
  • Sen. David Watters (Dover)
  • Rep. Anita Burroughs (Bartlett)
  • Rep. Linn Opderbecke (Dover)
  • Rep. Lee Walker Oxenham (Plainfield)
  • Rep. Katherine Rogers (Concord)
  • Rep. Jeffrey Salloway (Lee)
  • Rep. Bruce Tatro (Swanzey)
Booker spent last weekend touring New Hampshire in an RV, making stops in Manchester, Nashua, Exeter, Pelham and Portsmouth. Booker met his 5,000th New Hampshire voter, held his 40th campaign stop in the state and became the first 2020 candidate to knock on doors when he campaigned for Manchester Mayor Joyce Craig.

Six NH State Representatives Endorse Cory Booker for President

Following winning debate performance, Booker campaign building momentum ahead of next visit to the Granite State this weekend

Manchester, NH --
On the heels of Cory Booker’s widely-praised first Democratic primary debate appearance and ahead of his upcoming visit to the Granite State on July 13 and 14th, Cory for New Hampshire announced six new endorsements from prominent New Hampshire Democrats:
  • Rep. Anita Burroughs (Bartlett)
  • Rep. Linn Opderbecke (Dover)
  • Rep. Lee Walker Oxenham (Plainfield)
  • Rep. Katherine Rogers (Concord)
  • Rep. Jeffrey Salloway (Lee)
  • Rep. Bruce Tatro (Keene)
These six Granite State leaders join the only two state Senators to endorse in the Democratic primary, Sens. Jon Morgan and David Watters.

Rep. Anita Burroughs:
"Cory Booker is a committed public servant who brings experience, passion, and integrity to this race. When I saw him speak in Conway recently, I was moved by the way he brought people together and encouraged them to fight for justice. He's a proven fighter who knows that beating Donald Trump is the floor, not the ceiling, of what's possible for our country. Cory is a dedicated champion for Granite Staters, and is the best choice to lead our party in November 2020."

Rep. Linn Opderbecke:
“I’m proud to support Cory Booker because he is not just smart, driven and qualified, but there is no one stronger in this race on criminal justice reform — period. As a mayor and as a senator, he has a proven record of taking on big challenges, and getting results. Cory is a fighter for the people of Strafford County and a champion for the least among us, and I am thrilled to stand with him in this race."

Rep. Lee Walker Oxenham:
“Our leaders must take threats to the environment and the climate crisis very seriously. Cory understands this. His environmental justice plan would protect our precious natural resources, keep PFAS out of our water, and strengthen critical EPA protections. He understands that we can’t wait to save our planet. Cory is the best choice to take on Donald Trump in November, and I’m excited to help share his vision with voters in Sullivan County and across the Granite State.”

Rep. Katherine Rogers:
"Cory is a proven fighter who takes on the toughest challenges, and he knows that beating Trump is the bare minimum -- and that we must also make progress immediately to improve the lives of all Americans. He has proposed the most ambitious gun violence prevention plan of any presidential candidate, which would address our nation's gun violence epidemic. Cory understands that we can’t just arrest our way out of the opioid crisis and that justice is not about throwing a generation behind bars. And he would ensure economic justice by repealing tax cuts for the wealthy and putting money back into the pockets of hardworking Granite Staters. I'm thrilled to get to work to elect Senator Booker our next president."

Rep. Jeffrey Salloway:
“Cory Booker brings decades of leadership experience to what is shaping up to be the biggest political fight of our generation. But, critically, he recognizes that beating Donald Trump is just the beginning of what a presidential candidate must do. Cory has proposed thoughtful, progressive policies that will help fix our broken health care system, defend individual freedoms, and help improve the lives of every Granite Stater. Cory brings justice and grace back into our politics, and I’m proud to stand with him in this fight.”

Rep. Bruce Tatro:
“I have a responsibility to the people of Cheshire County to support the candidate in this primary who has the drive, the passion, and the experience to lead our country forward. It’s clear that candidate is Cory Booker. He is true to his values — I respect that he has lived in the same community for decades. Unlike many politicians, he is a leader who understands the struggles people are facing in Newark and across the country. In the first debate, Cory continued to be the definition of presidential, and I’m proud to support him in this race.”

Since launching his campaign, Cory Booker has held 35 public events, met more than 4,000 voters, and campaigned in all ten counties in New Hampshire alone. The Booker campaign was the first to open multiple offices in the state, with locations in Manchester, Nashua and Portsmouth, and more on the way.

In June, Booker kicked off the second Day of Action in New Hampshire, launching canvasses in ten cities all across the state. Last month, he also launched the Justice Academy, an eight-week leadership development program for volunteers that trains participants in the nuts and bolts of community organizing.

ICYMI: 2nd New Hampshire Senator Endorses Cory Booker

Manchester, NH -- Yesterday, New Hampshire Senator David Watters announced his endorsement of Cory Booker for president. Watters joins Sen. Jon Morgan, who endorsed Cory last week, as the only two state senators to back a candidate in the 2020 Democratic primary. New Hampshire has 14 Democratic senators in total.

Seacoast Online: Sen. Watters backs Booker for president in 2020
By Paul Steinhauser

CONCORD — A second Democrat in the New Hampshire state Senate is making an endorsement in the wide-open race for the Democratic presidential nomination.

And once again, presidential candidate U.S. Sen. Cory Booker of New Jersey landed the endorsement.

State Sen. David Watters, of Dover, told Seacoast Media Group on Wednesday he is backing Booker because the Garden State Democrat has “the unique qualities and the really strong character to bring the country together now, to heal our divisions.”

“There’s such a joy there. And he has really connected with us. He understands New Hampshire people,” Watters said. “He really listens. He wants to bring people together.”

The state senator shared that he’s long kept an eye on Booker, adding “I’ve really been paying attention to his issues for years. When I saw him get that criminal justice reform bill through, I thought here’s somebody that shows the government can work.”

And Watters pointed to Booker’s “Baby Bonds”proposal, which would give newborns savings accounts that could be worth tens of thousands of dollars by age 18, and his push to nearly double eligibility for the existing earned income tax credits, which the state senator touted “will transform our economy.”

“I like people who can go from inspiration to perspiration, get the work done,” Watters stressed.

Watters also took aim at Republican President Donald Trump, arguing that “we’ve got a president who’s running on fear. Cory Booker knows that hope and dreams bring our country together and he’s the candidate who’s going to beat Trump.”

Booker’s no stranger to the Granite State. He was in the state last fall, just days before the 2018 elections, to help Democrats running for office. He also raised more than $170,000 for the New Hampshire Democratic Party last year, and along with 2020 rival U.S. Sen. Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts, he was a top contributor to the state party during the 2018 cycle.

Since launching his presidential campaign at the beginning of February, he has attracted large crowds during his multiple visits to the first-in-the-nation primary state. Booker’s also built a formidable campaign staff in the state.

Watters, who has represented Barrington, Dover, Rollinsford, and Somersworth in the state Senate since winning election to the 24-member chamber in 2012, is the second of the current 14 Democratic state senators to back a White House hopeful.

Last week Sen. Jon Morgan of Brentwood also endorsed Booker.

While endorsements can sometimes be overrated, they often can benefit a candidate.

“I think there’s a short-term hit,” veteran New Hampshire-based political scientist Dante Scala noted, as he pointed to the media attention endorsements draw.

Scala, a political science professor at the University of New Hampshire, noted that endorsements are an additional metric to polling and fundraising that can be used to gauge a candidate’s strength.

“I think there’s a big overlap between state senators and activists,” he added. “I think state senators, especially in an open field like this, can sometimes be the early warning system of how elite opinion is going.”

ICYMI: First New Hampshire State Senate Endorsement Goes to Cory Booker

Manchester, NH -- Yesterday, New Hampshire state Senator Jon Morgan publicly declared his support of Cory Booker for president in 2020. Morgan, a first term senator who flipped a red seat to blue, announced his endorsement on WMUR and to Politico.
Senator Morgan announced his endorsement on WMUR yesterday evening [watch here].

POLITICO: New Hampshire lawmaker endorses Booker

Cory Booker isn’t soaring in the national polls or in the 2020 fundraising race. Still, the New Jersey senator is quietly making early presidential state inroads.

On Monday, Booker captured his first legislative endorsement in New Hampshire when state Sen. Jon Morgan gave him his official backing.

Morgan has met numerous 2020 candidates and attended recent campaign events for Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Massachusetts), Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-New York) and former Maryland Rep. John Delaney. But he said Booker’s message, which centers on uniting a deeply divided nation, is what most resonated with him.

I’ve had a chance at this point to meet and speak with and get to know many of them; I respect and admire every single one of them,” Morgan told POLITICO. “But the fact of the matter is we need a specific set of skills for the problems of today. I just believe we need a leader that’s committed to bringing us back together, someone who recognizes we have more in common than divides us and especially someone who is going to be real leader not letting themselves be baited into these childish games we see being played out so frequently on various different platforms.”
